If we roll with 16 teams, I say one division each league and take the top two records in each. I mean four different divisions of four is fine. But if we only having 16, no reason to have 3 divisions and a wildcard, half the league in the playoffs..meh

voted other for now, it really depends on final number of teams, if we get up to 20 I can live with 8 playoff teams, if its only 16 I kind of agree with Padres that 50% making playoffs might be a bit much. number of div really depends on being able to divide them up equally, can't have different sized division. if we get a number we can't equal out I would say go one division top 4 make playoffs.

I think it really does depend on the stopping point. Perhaps this poll is better to revisit once we get to 16 or 20...or maybe it's less than 16 or more than 20. Brewers GM I think mentioned having a new person interested. We already have a new guy joining, new blood is a good idea.

Agree with Padres owner that it makes no sense to have 3 divisions each league if only 16 owners. A division should have a minimum of 4 teams, shouldn't it?

I think 2 divisions per league will be what we go with.. makes the most sense.

Is there any reason we can't do two divisions per league with two wild cards allowing for a LDS and then an LCS. The reason this would be good is only four contenders doesn't leave much incentive for deadline trading. We all know that OOTP can be cruel to the better teams in the playoffs, so I think it would help league activity to have eight contenders and eight rebuilders instead of four and twelve. Thoughts???

Maybe it would be better to have 1 division per conference. In the AL, Oakland KC and Seattle would till be trying to compete with Toronto for the 2nd spot. In the NL, St. Louis could still try and chase the Mets. It's not perfect but does allow for more competition. I don't think we can send 8 to the playoffs without expansion.

I'd rather the Padres idea vs 8/18 teams making the playoffs. We'd need to expand to add WCs, which seems doubtful when a portion of the league as is cant even be bothered to draft on time or make a draft list.

I'm sort of torn on this whole thing. I agree that our league is too small to warrant having 8 teams in the playoffs -- but I also don't like so many teams being out of it so early in the season. But even so, the AL is still a big race as is. And I'm still going to try to be catching the Dodgers, whether successful or not.
I'm all for anything that gets me in the playoffs, though! Maybe we have 3 teams in each league make it. The best record gets a first round bye and competes in the LCS -- the other division winner takes on the WC team in the Divisional series. I don't even know if it's possible to set the league up like that.

I'm not really strongly against this, though. I'd much rather do this than expand the number of teams in the league. 3 teams would be cool but I suspect that's gonna be weird for 6.5 I do really like one division in each league regardless of the playoff teams. Commish thoughts?

From my end I can make anything work really, I can just manually edit the schedule and add the series in at the end of the regular season. OOTP will think that it’s not playoffs but for our records we’d know.
I’d have to run a few tests but I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t mess anything up.

I haven't tested it, but once we reach the postseason I think I can still actually edit the schedule and add in/delete games.. so those should still count as postseason. I can also make sure those don't get counted on our database either way.

I don't love the idea of a first round bye...I mean, realistically it certainly evens the playing field in 6.5, but it's getting even farther from reality...
