CardinalsGM: You shouldn't have to have a 7 contact mixed with 10 power to be MLB. 5 and 7 should get you there, just fine, especially when our A-level and late draft picks are 2-3's. 10's should be exceedingly rare, and YES, they would be more likely to dominate.

MarinersGM: In your proposed mechanic, and to Cubs point, the 10s that the game engine would produce would result in absurd outcomes like 80+ homer seasons, over .400 averages, etc. I’ve been in leagues like that and it’s no fun because it’s not realistic.

MarinersGM: one player can make far too much of a difference and upset the balance of the league. I think the settings in this league are much better than your proposal and leave just a few outliers like Bonds and Sheffield but their numbers still aren’t unrealistic

MarinersGM: and also we all agree that a few more teams would spread the talent out a bit and should fix part of your concern.

CubsGM: There are settings. I don't know what they are for this league. I think this league is very close to perfect as it is right now.

CubsGM: I am not a fan of expansion drafts, nor of expanding without stronger activity with current GMs.

CardinalsGM: You know what else is unrealistic? When teams trade 25 players for one, because everybody agrees that anything beyond the 2nd round draft pick is nearly worthless. That's directly a result of MLB ratings being out of reach for most players drafted.

CardinalsGM: The only way of dealing with that is making sure we don't have the "average" MLB player's ratings be too high relative to later draft picks.

CardinalsGM: Again, I'm in agreement with the commish that most of this is due to a condensed talent pool into only 18 teams.
Apr 5, 2020 11:54:25 GMT -5
CubsGM: I disagree. Trades should be regulated by the Commish/league rules. Keeping the talent so low that MLB players are average 5s is not going to affect the individual creativity of two GMs who are finding a way to trade. Most of the leagues I’ve been in

CubsGM: have had trade councils.

CubsGM: Our first issue is a lack of consistent activity by our GMs.

MarinersGM: is there a sim today?

CardinalsGM: You complain that having a dominant player or two would be "unrealistic." I point out that a 25-1 trade is unrealistic, and point out a very plausible reason that trade took place (a reason which was directly cited by the participants)...

CardinalsGM: ...and you "disagree."
Apr 5, 2020 14:22:39 GMT -5
CardinalsGM: I agree, though, that the level of activity is not great.

Commish: I reached out to a few former VaV GMs from our past.. David who had Cleveland for like 50 seasons and Kevin Fink who was in for over 30 seasons responded that they could be interested

Commish: if by league activity we mean trades, again I think it’s because we’re over saturated with talent.. why would teams like Pittsburgh, Montreal or Texas trade when they have absolutely stacked minors
Apr 5, 2020 14:40:57 GMT -5
Commish: as far as activity from drafts, submitting lineups and free agency.. we’re pretty solid there
Apr 5, 2020 14:41:20 GMT -5
Commish: and yes, sim here in a bit
