Was just sort of tossing around the idea of maybe adding a team to each division to help sort of level out the rosters a bit as we go forward. I had seen a few GMs mention the over-saturation of talent that we're moving towards.
My idea would be that if we found new blood, obviously they could take the teams over; if not, they would just be sort of league-run teams who could fill out their rosters with the remaining scraps.
I wouldn't necessarily even run an expansion draft as they could probably fill out their rosters with the leftovers from free agency.
Just an idea, nothing firm.

It's a good idea in theory.
I don't know or think it's going to solve the frustrations of not being able to find trade partners when there's good talent out there being shopped. A lot of teams still aren't actively trying to win or seem to be very responsive.
If we lined up two people to join the league to take over future expansion teams, that would be great. I would hate to see two teams ran by the league again but I guess even that would help in some ways if that's our fallback plan.

It is a good idea because there is an oversaturation of talent.
If we can continue to have active owners, then it's a great idea.

I say yes, if newcomers stay active.

If there, in fact, is an oversaturation of talent... which I think is debatable. Then expanding two teams that the league controls allows for the slow build of the teams over time, as they take those top draft picks, and hopefully live and active GMs take over in a couple years when they have decent farm systems.
I don't know that I trust the current level of activity to last given where we were fairly recently. In that light, I'd be afraid to expand until we get consistent activity for 3-5 seasons.
I pretty much lineup with Kingdom on this.
With all that said, the Cubbies train is a comin'!!!

I think it's better to have an open spot (potentially controlled by Commish or someone else) when a new GM shows up than have no open spots and make them wait a month or so before we expand, risking losing the interest of that new guy. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that happened a year or so ago when a couple of new GMs showed up, but we had no spots open and they had to wait for a good while before the league expanded, and eventually, only WhiteSoxGM decided to stick around.
I have no opinion on the oversaturation of talent, but that's because I have nothing to compare it to. If that's the problem, I would look at the teams that are not competing and if those rosters are purposely built on scraps to stay out of the contention then maybe that's the reason why top teams are stacked on talent. But then again, looking at my own team, I wouldn't say it's built of scraps, there's definitely some talent within it, just lacking good pitching and that comes down to us being one of the bottom teams.
In regards to the lack of trades, I think it's hard to trade at least from my point of view. I'm always down to move my vets for a reasonable offer, but oftentimes the offers are questionable even for me and my limited knowledge. Maybe I need to change my valuation of players, but a relatively young pitcher that has 9/2/8 ratings is pretty much useless? And those are the most offers that I get, players with the shiny exterior but dodgy interior if that makes sense.
Last but not least. I feel like growing your own prospects is a super hard thing to do and more like a lottery, not one or two good prospects that I brought to Montreal ended up being absolute trash in 2-3 seasons of minors, but I still prefer to grow my own crop than frustrate myself over trade talks.

I am still too new to comment on over-saturation of talent. I do know that trade talks are always difficult and 9/10 it ends up being a long banter session that ends with no happy ending. The way people value their assets compared to another's is always going to be non-fungible. Also, people manage teams the way they manage teams. Fact of life. Expansion is not a bad thing if the people are there. Hell, didn't the MLB control a team for awhile once?

To be clear, I do not oppose expansion at all. I just don't feel it might solve some issues folks might have right away or maybe even ever.
I think we should actually expand by 4, so we could go to 3 divisions in each league. It's just a matter of finding GMs, which is often not easy. We might have one potentially on the waiting list that is super knowledgeable and would be good for an expansion team in my opinion. A lot of you are in other leagues, hit the recruiting trail again! Maybe not 4 all at once, unless we can get 4 people locked in while we continue to play out our current season, but just food for thought? We could further debate how expansion will truly work, I do not mind at all if we have to utilize real life MLB expansion rules if the everyone is interested or just going by what the Commish has proposed.
I think, maybe depending on how the Commish ends up settling how expansion will work, it's a very attractive proposition to completely build up your team from scratch vs. inheriting a team because the GM had been dormant. It might be easier to recruit for expansion teams at this very moment.

Yeah, I think Josh's idea was to add a team to each division, though I agree with AngelsGM if we add 4 we should split into 6 divisions of 4 teams each. I'm all for that if we have a couple guys on a waitlist and only have temporary owners (whether that's the league or other owners) watching 1 or 2 teams max. I'd volunteer to foster an NL team if it came to that. I don't think there is a saturation problem that is severe enough to warrant expanding the league without at least 2 new owners. All you MSL guys, how many others who haven't already joined might be willing to take on an expansion team in Vav? We should start there. And if we get that far, I vote for a real expansion draft (we can work out the details) as opposed to just giving them empty shells and having them start from nothing (might making it harder to give the teams away).

All sounds reasonable and good to me.
I still have the expansion tools we used for Twins and White Sox as well that we can use if and when we get there.

We could have a normal playoff structure; the boss won't have to swap teams at the end of the season like he typically ends up doing for seeding. Less mess for him, ultimately and it might also reinvigorate or create new rivalries and competitiveness if we add teams to have 6 divisions.

Honestly, I think the big thing that's causing a hang up on some MSL guys is just having to go to another forum. MSL used to be on a different site, and it took forever to get people to constantly check in. Eventually we merged and things turned out for the better overall. Take it fwiw.
Now Kingdom is going to harangue me.

For example, Schisno I'm fairly certain would love to start an expansion team, but he's not going anywhere else to talk trades or stuff, but he's a concrete example.
