As an Oriole fan, Moose should be 10-10-10!

Can we make Karsay a worthwhile reliever? And cut back on the endurance obviously.

Can we make Karsay a worthwhile reliever? And cut back on the endurance obviously. Yeah, Karsay is one of those “what if” type of players. I remember him being the center piece of the Ricky Henderson to the Blue Jays deal in the early 90’s. Top rated prospect who had a few good starts when he came up and then injured his elbow. Came back the next year only blow out his arm again requiring Tommy John surgery. Ended up being a pretty good reliever for many years but never had the career he was projected to have.

Seems like a whole bunch of pretty high ratings. Are we creeping up to where guys with a 5 contact are going to be completely worthless?
I'd rather we not get there...
Anyway, I wish the draft were this deep when I was the last pick the last two years!

You can always keep your AAA warm with the 5 contact bums.

I think we're already at 5 contact not being good enough for the bigs... even 6 contact isn't that good in this league already...

Anyway, I wish the draft were this deep when I was the last pick the last two years! I can temper some of these ratings for sure. The problem for me is that these guys are coming in so much younger than before, meaning there's a higher chance for them to have talent drops before they reach majors. I'm always hesitant to give a solid ML career player who hit say .275 a 5-6 contact rating because that's one drop away from being in the 3 range. I'll definitely adjust some of these guys down slightly, but a lot of times even the guys I'm giving 8 are starting out as a 1 or 2 real rating.

Also, just as a frame of reference.. here's the breakdown of the contact ratings of players currently in MLB or AAA:
10 - 3 total - 0.8% of league
9 - 8 total - 2.1 %
8 - 32 total - 8.6%
7 - 62 total - 16.6%
6 - 98 total - 26.3%
5 - 107 total - 28.7%
4 - 45 total - 12.1%
3 - 15 total - 4.0 %
2> - 3 total - 0.8%
So, it's actually a pretty nice bell curve where most of the league falls between 5-7

I don't think the initial ratings are too high for prospects (especially such young ones), but the development settings are such that many guys are developing fully despite coming in at 18 or 19 (probably at a slightly higher clip than in real life). Personally, I like where the settings are that, as there is nothing more frustrating than having a top pick become worthless after one or two big drops. The settings increase the value of our prospects as well, which should encourage trading. But, I don't really mind if 5 contact guys are worthless, so I think the positives outweigh the negatives.
That's a solid bell curve too...although a few more 7s and 8s would make it perfect. Puckett (10 contact) and Molitor (9) can be had for the right price!

Keep in mind, having the major league average ratings be lower also means that people you draft with a 3-4 have a much better shot at actually developing into major leaguers if they get any kind of boost.
It looks like a solid bell curve currently... so that's definitely good. I just love having diversity and the chance for the people we draft in late rounds having an actual shot at being major league contributors with just a little bit of luck.
I have always thought it would be nice to have those players have some category of their ratings which really shine, also -- so they might need a boost in one area instead of 3. A major leaguer with a 5 contact but with really good power and a solid eye should be able to stick around.
I just don't want us getting to the point where only people with a 7 contact can hit in the majors... and then every round for the draft is pretty much pointless once you get to the last half of the 2nd round.
