I won't post a poll until we hash out the details of what our possibilities are.
I didn't catch all of the discussion in the shout box, but it seemed like we were weighing the options between no divisions, three divisions or 2 divisions with top 2 going.
Any one care to recap this in a brief breakdown?

I think the problem with the Cubs' idea was that you can't do an odd number of playoff teams, so we could not bump up to 6 playoff teams. That leaves setting up 3 divisions in each league, 8 playoff teams total.
Cardinals suggested no divisions. It would have certainly increased the competition this season since there would be 4 teams battling out for the 2nd playoff spot but I'm not sure how the picture looked in the last two seasons and as the Cubs noted, it could still curb activity if the two teams are both running away.
At the very least, I think both ideas are an improvement.

Ideally, I would propose two divisions in two leagues with a wild card in each, which would require a bye in the LDS for the division winner with the best record. I tried multiple times to create a custom league like this and could not.
So I would propose a three division two league structure. This would put three teams in each division and would put four teams in each league into the LDS comprised of three division winners and a wildcard. Then the winners of the LDS would play each other in the LCS, and the winners of the LCS would play in the World Series. A classic three series playoff structure giving the league eight contenders out of eighteen teams. This should increase trade discussion exponentially. Not every contender will choose the trade route, which is another reason more contenders are needed. With only four playoff slots, it's possible that only two would be interested in trading. IMHO, this is hurts league activity and interest.
The argument for zero divisions would depend solely on the playoff structure. Less teams in... less activity.
Thanks for hearing my opinion.

I would vote for 3 divisions, 4 teams into the playoffs.

I would vote for 3 divisions, 4 teams into the playoffs. How would that work out? For three divisions, you need eight teams going into the LDS. We currently have a 2 division, 4 team playoff structure....

Sorry 3 divisions and 4 teams into playoffs in each American and National league - 8 teams into playoffs total basically agreeing with you I think.

One potential problem is I think OOTP requires there to be an even number of teams in each league. So, we wouldn't be able to have two leagues with 9 teams each.

Did we land on a few options to vote on for a new league structure moving forward? We probably increase number of playoff teams one way or another.

I was able to set up a “custom league” with three teams in three divisions with two leagues. It is possible. The playoff structure will default to a wildcard fourth playoff team for a total of eight playoff teams out of eighteen total in the league. I recommend this structure going forward.

Looks like a good compromise would be the following: when I edit the playoff structure, it allows us to change it to where the top 2 in each division make the playoffs.
So this year would've been:
TOR vs. KC OAK vs. NYY
NYM vs. LAD STL vs. MON

Would it make more sense to just have 2 leagues with 1 division and take the top 4? It would be sad to see a team like the Yankees get in over Seattle.

If I set it to 1 league, your only options are top 2 advance or top team advances

So this year would've been: TOR vs. KC OAK vs. NYY NYM vs. LAD STL vs. MON While this isn’t perfect, it does add additional teams to the postseason and should generate more interest for the teams battling for that second playoff spot.

As long as we have eight playoff teams/contenders... Let's do it!

I don't like that a not very good team would get in the playoffs but I think that can pretty much happen in almost any sim league. It's worth doing, it might make the selling/buying markets worth having a season where a 73-89 stinker slips into the playoffs. then watch them win a round lol
